The Nokia N96
Introduction
For the uninitiated, Nokia is a multinational telecommunications corporation based in Finland. It is, in fact, the leading supplier of mobile phones and was responsible for 37% of mobile phone sales - a total of ?2,382 million - in Europe, alone, during 2008. Nokia offers a huge range of mobile phone handsets, in classic, fold, slide and twist designs, with large screens and a range of features, including Bluetooth®, Internet browsing, camera, MP3 player, etc..
Nokia N96 Mobile Phone
The predecessor of the Nokia N96, the Nokia N95, was so well received that is was, truly, a hard act to follow. This is perhaps why Nokia decided to retain its looks, and, to a certain extent, its technical capabilities, in the Nokia N96. The unique, dual keypad arrangement, for example, has been retained in the Nokia N96, but is now housed in a superior, high gloss handset with a smooth, sturdier, slide mechanism.
Technically, the 5 megapixel camera - with optics from Carl Zeiss and Tessar - is still one of the best in any mobile phone, but has been superseded, to some degree, by 8 megapixel models available elsewhere. The 2.8" display, with 16 million colours, similarly remains one of the largest, highest quality screens available, but there are other features that set the Nokia N96 apart from its predecessor, and from the competition. The single LED flash of the Nokia N95 has been replaced by a double LED version, 16GB of integral memory is now included - plus the possibility of expansion using micro SDHC ("Secure Digital High Capacity") card - and the Nokia N96 also features an integrated DVB-H ("Digital Video Broadcasting - Handheld") tuner, for TV pictures on the move.
Contract deals involving the Nokia N96 mobile phone are available from all the major network providers - O2, Orange, T-Mobile, Three and Vodafone - although the cost of the handset, itself, inclusive monthly minutes, monthly texts, etc. obviously vary widely between deals. O2, for example, offer the Nokia N96 free of charge if you sign up for its 600 + Unlimited tariff - 600 inclusive minutes, plus unlimited monthly texts - at a cost of £30.00 per month, while the Orange Dolphin 15 tariff offers 100 any time, any network minutes, plus unlimited texts, for £15.00 per month, but you do need to pay £156.99 for the Nokia N96 handset. You can also opt for Pay As You Go on Three, with no contract, but this involves paying the full £479.78 for the handset.
