O2 Network Mobile Phones and O2 Broadband Services

Introduction

O2, as part of the larger Telefónica Europe, provides fixed, mobile and broadband services for no fewer than 45.8 million customers across Europe, in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Isle of Man, Germany, Czech Republic and Slovakia. Telefónica Europe owns a stake in Tesco Mobile in the United Kingdom and Ireland, Manx Telecom in the Isle of Man and Tchibo Mobilfunk in Germany. Overall, it employs 29,000 people in Europe, and reported revenue of €14.3 billion in 2008. The O2 brand – which is how Telefónica Europe is known to its customers – continues to grow, in strength and reputation, in each of its established markets.

Popular O2 Deals

As far as mobile phones are concerned, O2 offers a full range from leading manufacturers such as LG, Nokia, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, etc., as well as more sophisticated mobile Internet solutions from Blackberry, Xda, and, of course, the iPhone 3G, from Apple. Depending upon your choice of mobile phone, you can choose from a range of competitive, "pay as you go", or pay monthly, tariffs, featuring unlimited texts, or unlimited free minutes to O2 mobiles and landlines within your chosen postcode within the U.K., if you top up at least £30 each month, or anything up to 3,000 free minutes, 1,000 free texts, and inclusive free calls to other O2 numbers, if you follow the pay monthly route.

Home broadband, too, is available in three different "flavours", Standard, Premium and Pro, offering download speeds between 8Mbps ("Megabits per second") and 20Mbps, depending upon your location. The service is free for the first 3 months with the Premium and Pro packages. All services include a free wireless router, and between 100 and 500 free web text messages per month. Pay monthly mobile broadband is also available with 3GB and 8GB download allowances, according to which tariff you choose, but both include a free USB ("Universal Serial Bus") modem, or "dongle", and a free Nokia 2630 mobile phone is included in the price. Mobile broadband access can also be bought on a daily, weekly or monthly basis.

Popular O2 deals include the Nokia 5220 Red, complete with 2 megapixel camera and 512MB SD card, available for £78.29 on pay as you go, and the Nokia 660 Fold, good all-rounder, again with 2 megapixel camera, fast mobile Internet access, and music player, available free on charge on all O2 pay monthly tariffs.
